The Newport News Bar Association is hosting an
advice clinic at Legal Aid:
The "Judgment Proof Debtor -Bankruptcy By-pass Clinic” is an
one hour training (with CLE credit) followed by an one hour telephone advice
session at the Legal Aid office in Hampton. No prior experience is needed.
During the training, volunteer attorneys will be given the necessary
information on why an individual is collection proof and why the individual may
not need to file for bankruptcy. Immediately after the training, volunteers
will call individuals who have been scheduled for the clinic. Each call takes
about 15 minutes, and during the call the volunteers will explain why the
client is collection proof and provide advice on what the client can do to stop
debt collectors from calling.
This clinic will take place on, Monday, April 29, 2019, from 4
p.m. until 6 p.m. [from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. is the training (with CLE credit) and from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. is for advice calls].
