News for Our Members

1. The Attorney General of Virginia, the Young Lawyers Division of The Virginia Bar Association, and the Federation of Virginia Food Banks invite you to participate in the fun-friendly Statewide 2014 Legal Food Frenzy to help fill the shelves with nutritious food at the Foodbank of the Virginia Peninsula. Over the past seven years, law firms, legal organizations, and law schools who participated in the Statewide Legal Food Frenzy have raised the equivalent of more than 10 million pounds of food. This year, our hope is to raise even more food and funds, so that we can meet the increased demand at the seven Virginia Foodbanks . To learn more about getting involved and to register to participate in support of the Foodbank of the Virginia Peninsula, please visit www.legalfoodfrenzy.com or http://www.hrfoodbank.org/eventdetail/85/legal-food-frenzy.html.

2.  We have a limited opportunity to effectively express our thoughts to our legislators on the necessity of restoring the open Circuit Court judgeship and to advocate for the sixth seat as recommended by the recent Virginia Judicial Workload Assessment Report. The session convened today will move quickly and keeping this issue as a priority requires your continuing help.

I have listed in-session contact information for the members of the general assembly who represent the City of Newport News for your convenience. A phone call to the staffers and/or an email to your member will be effective in keeping this matter on the forefront.

This is important to our friends and neighbors as well as clients to assure access to the Courts in a timely manner.

Best regards,
Robert (Bob) P. Stenzhorn

4The Newport News Bar Association is excited to announce the formation of the Young Lawyers Committee and invites your participation in this Committee. The Young Lawyers Committee is open to members of the Newport News Bar Association who are under the age of 36 or who have been in practice for less than five years. If you are interested in joining the Young Lawyers Committee and meet the criteria for membership, please contact Lisa Moore at lmoore@waynemoorelaw.com

If you are interested in becoming a mentor, please let us know. We would like mentors to be attorneys with at least five years experienced who are willing to meet with a young attorney. Please think about having coffee or lunch with a young attorney to pass on words of wisdom to him or her.

If you are interested in being mentored, please also let us know. We would like to help new attorneys bridge the gap from law school to practice.

Please contact Lisa Moore, the chair of the Young Lawyers Commitee, to express your interest. Here email address is lmoore@waynemoorelaw.com. Please provide her with your name, address, telephone number, and email address.

Thank you for your interest in this new program!
